Democrats kill Rep. Brown’s attempts to prioritize transportation and education in budget

CO House GOP

Denver — Today, Democrats in the House killed multiple amendments offered by Representative J. Paul Brown (R-Ignacio) to prioritize general fund dollars for transportation and education in next year’s budget.

The amendments would have redirected $5.75 million earmarked in the budget for new programs to transportation and education.

“The Democrats’ votes were clear, they chose earmarks for new programs over more funding for Colorado’s run-down roads and schools still feeling the effects of the recession,” said Brown. “Fiscal responsibility involves prioritizing tax dollars, and I am disappointed to see Democrats unwilling to place the pressing needs of Coloradans above their own personal agendas.”
